Richard Bell -
When not painting, Richard has for most of his working life been involved in the Australian Film and Television industry. Richard began working his way up through the Art Department on films including ‘The Man from Snowy River II’, until receiving his first Production Design credit in 1992.
Since then he has worked on an array of projects from Television Drama (including Halifax fp, Finding Hope and Dog Women), Children’s TV (on shows such as ‘Round The Twist’ and Disney/ACTF ‘Crash Zone’) to the Feature film ‘The Interview’ – Winner of Best Film at both Toronto Film Festival and the Australian AFI awards and an AFI award nomination for ‘Best Production Design’ for his work on this film.
He says the best part of working in this “crazy industry” was meeting his beautiful wife, Rebecca Gibney during the filming of Halifax.
Between projects Richard pursued his first passion – Painting.
A move to Tasmania in 2003 was a pivotal moment, as time away from the demanding schedule of filming allowed Richard more time to paint in an environment he says is “inspirational and moving.” During his time in Tasmania, Richard was accepted as a finalist in the Glover Prize on three occasions.
Work has meant that Richard, his wife Rebecca and son, Zac, have moved to Sydney where Rebecca works as an actor. He has set up a studio and is now working towards painting on a full time basis, whilst keeping a hand in the Film Industry developing Film and Television projects with Rebecca through their Production Company.
