Janine Combes - silver jewellery

Additional information

As a jeweller/artist I’m interested in the detail, textures and recurring forms around me. I work with strong organic shapes which are formed in silver and are often highly textured.

My focus is on the natural landscape and in particular native Tasmanian plants and seascapes. Spiky little plants with attitude like the Tasmanian ‘Button Grass’ found in south-west wilderness areas particularly appeal to me because of their sculptural form and resilience.

My studio is on Bruny Island, one of Tasmania’s several hundred smaller islands. Islands provide a lens for looking closely at what is around you, a contained and heightened experience for an artist.
