Tricky Walsh - Painter
Tricky Walsh's work divides into two core streams - Painting and Installation, with a commonality based on the constructed filmic narrative. Her paintings are single-frame images that capture transient moments in the lives of their characters. Walsh utilises a film / comic book aesthetic in order to view tangential fragments of the human condition. They pause at the point of decision - that moment of alternative possibility and the verge of action. The paintings often incorporate text, fabricated camera angles, points of view, monologues and scripts.
Her installation practice centres on the construction of architectural still-life models - a process that takes standard domestic objects and environments and breaks them down into inhabited, miniature-scale structures which encourage the natural act of looking and assembling filmic experiences without the distancing nature of film. This positions the viewer as a Director, who can formulate alternative narratives than those offered.
