tmag redevelopment
Dear Friends of Handmark Gallery
Architect, Garry Forward wrote a very good letter (see to the right) to the Editor which was published in the Mercury on Tuesday 6th January explaining why it is important that the redevelopment of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery proceed without delays. I wholeheartedly agree with this view, but it is up to each one of us to do all we can to make it happen.
Garry is keen to encourage more people to get involved and initiate a community groundswell, hence me writing to you to encourage you to talk to your friends. Let’s show that we really do want the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery to be a showcase for Tasmania to Australia and the world.
I feel the Tasmanian arts scene is in a very exciting space at present and momentum is building with David Walsh’s Museum of Old and New Art moving closer to completion. Tasmania is also in a perfect position to take advantage of the economic downturn and reap the benefits of not only those who enjoy our wonderful landscape but that huge market of people who travel for cultural tourism experiences.
One lone letter can’t achieve a turn around, there needs to be a concerted follow up to the politicians and public servants who will decide the programme for this redevelopment and for them to feel that it has significant community support.
Please consider writing a letter to the Editor of The Mercury, asking your friends to do likewise and where possible becoming vocal about the importance of this vital project for our community.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards
